When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, "She is my sister," because he was afraid to say, "She is my wife." He thought, "The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful."
Genesis 26:7
An example of sins of the father being passed on to the children. Isaac not only learned the faith of his father but also his fears. I wonder if Abraham told Isaac about his situations in a positive light or if he just repeated without knowing.
When Esau was forty years old, he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and also Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite. They were a source of grief to Isaac and Rebekah.
Genesis 26:34-35 NIV
Isaac had faced opposition and difficulties before but they were external and he could move away. Now he has grief from within his family because of marriages choices of his son.
Marriage is a very important choice in life. I wonder if he had given instruction to Esau about this. Based on what happens with Jacob later, I'm guessing not.
