So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
Romans 7:21-23
This description of how we wrestle against sin in our effort to obey God and follow him has been very familiar to me for a large portion of my life. I know that Paul is going to describe how in Christ Jesus we can have victory in this spiritual battle against the flesh, but it cannot be won with our effort alone. I need God, and I need to trust in Jesus Christ and admit and understand that I am a sinner in my flesh, and I cannot play with sin and expect to escape unharmed. I need to be "delivered from this body of death" and only through faith in Jesus Christ it is possible. Please help me Lord to be delivered and live in the freedom that you provide!
