Matthew 5 - Nathanael

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:48 NIV

This chapter is loaded with amazing teaching. Jesus turns prior thoughts on their heads and gives a whole new perspective. He ups the bar on what it means to be holy and a follower of God. This last verse sums up the utter impossibility of us accomplishing these things on our own.
Clearly we fall short of God's calling and requirements and our only hope is in God alone!

Thank you Jesus that you came to save us and change us!

  1. I think it's interesting that God calls us to be perfect, even though he knows that we are weak in our flesh. He does not give us permission to sin or fall short. But he picks us up and makes a way for us to be cleaned and receive righteousness from him.
