John 1 - Nathanael

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
John 1:1-4
John gives a clear, concise description of Jesus, the Word of God, who is God himself, and exists alongside God the father, and has always existed.  He created everything, he gives life and light to all mankind.  He is the source of everything that exists, and he is still the one giving physical and spiritual life and spiritual understanding today.

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God
John 1:12
We are not automatically children of God, but through believing/trusting in the name of Jesus, we become children of God

Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
John 1:40
Andrew as one of John the Baptist's disciples who followed Jesus because of what John had said about Jesus.  John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus not just in opening the hearts of many to Jesus, but he also helped in bringing together some of the core of Jesus' followers, his disciples.
