2 Corinthians 1 - Nathanael

The church in Corinth seems to now be facing persecution and difficulties. Paul is sending a word of comfort and hope, letting them know that he too faced much difficulties but God rescued him from them all and gave him comfort in the midst off them.
We to face many difficulties in life and it is important to know that God loves us and is able and will deliver us.

who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
2 Corinthians 1:4
God is the God of comfort. That is a part of who he is and what he does. Just add a father who comforts a hurting child, God comforts us and wants us to in turn comfort others with the experience of comfort that  we have received.

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.
2 Corinthians 1:8
I often think that Paul went through the difficulties, beatings and stonings with no problem. But here we see that for Paul too these were difficult situations where he despaired for life itself - feeling that he would die.

He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,
2 Corinthians 1:10
But even in the greatest problem, God showed himself faithful and delivered him. In the same way God will deliver us!

Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Corinthians 1:21‭-‬22 NIV
God enables us to stand firm. Not only that but he gives us his Holy Spirit to guarantee our future. He is the deposit and proof of what goodness is to come!
