I love the description of Anna the prophetess. She's an "obscure" character in the Bible in that she is mentioned nowhere else, but what an incredible life. She spent most of her adult life, it seems, "never leaving the temple" and serving night and day with fastings and prayers.
I also noticed how John, although he had been prophesied about as an infant, spent most of his life in the wilderness. It seems that his ministry doesn't really begin in earnest until "the word of God came to" him. We can strive and try to artificially manufacture a work for God, but sometimes its just a matter of waiting for God to initiate the process according to his will and his timeline. We must be ready and willing.
