Another thing that strikes me is the contrast between Zacharias's response and Mary's response.
Zacharias was a mature priest, actively serving God. He was "gripped by fear" when he saw the angel, and had trouble believing the prophecy.

Mary was a young woman. Instead of being gripped by fear, she was "perplexed" by the angel's greeting. And her response was, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word."
I also love the incredible imagery when Zacharias later prophesies and compares Jesus to a sunrise. "the Sunrise from on high will visit us, To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death."
