Luke 1 - Jason

I read Luke 1. I was interested in all the details about the announcement of Jesus' birth and the announcement of John the Baptist's birth and the way their parents responded. Both pregnancies were miracles--similar to the birth of Isaac to Abraham and Sarah. But Jesus was unique in that his mother was a virgin when she gave birth to him. She still married Joseph and had many other children, but Jesus was her first, and she became pregnant with Jesus even before she was married, which must have been scandalous. But Elizabeth was happy to greet Mary and did not shun her, for she knew what the Lord was doing through her at least at some level. They seem to be very aware at this point that God was bring the Messiah into the world, and John would be his forerunner which was also foretold in prophecy. I want to be aware of the prophecy being fulfilled around me, and thank the Lord for his ways and his plans. Thank you God for everything that you are doing in creation and bringing us back to yourself. You are calling us to repent and be changed by You into Your people.
