Luke 12 - Nathanael

Luke 12 has some challenging statements for believers today.

But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Luke 12:48
Jesus here says that more will be required of us as believers, that we will be held to a higher standard than non - believers.

Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.  From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three.  They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
Luke 12:51‭-‬53 NIV
Thus passage is quite challenging as well because it strikes at the heart of family. We often feel that family is the most important thing, but really in God's eyes it isn't. He even says that he will turn family members against one another. This clearly happens when one decides to follow God and others resist. The pull to be reconciled with family often causes believers to compromise their beliefs. It also often causes Christians to water down the offense of the gospel when reaching out to non -believers.
