Matthew 15 - Nathanael

Then the disciples came to him and asked, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?"
Matthew 15:12
Jesus didn't worry that these people, the religious leaders, would be offended by what he said. That is true for his family and people in general. While his goal wasn't to offend, he would speak the truth and let the chips fall as they may. Generally those he would be stern with are those who opposed his work that God called him to do.

But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.  For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.  These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them."
Matthew 15:18‭-‬20 NIV
Our hearts are the source of evil that corrupt and defile us. The good news is that Jesus is in the business of changing hearts!
