Matthew 18 - Nathanael

Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;  but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matthew 18:4‭-‬6 NASB
Jesus is constantly challenging and changing the status quo in so many areas. Here he challenges the concept of greatness. His disciples asked who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. The normal expectation is the "important" or famous persons. Perhaps the religious leaders or most powerful or richest person. Today we'd think the pastor of the largest church or the famous Christian author or singer.
Butt Jesus says that it is the humble one, the one like the child.

In the kingdom of God the measures of what is good and important is totally different from three world we live in!

Father, change my heart and mind to be oriented to what you say is important!

  1. I think it's interesting that Jesus does not at all discourage us from wanting to be great in the kingdom of God, but he changes what "greatness" is. I wonder what it means to be humble towards God like a child? I think it means that I trust God as my Father for all my needs in the same way that a young child trusts his parents to provide for all of their needs.
