Matthew 21 - Nathanael

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?"  The crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."
Matthew 21:10‭-‬11
The people were excited about Jesus but didn't really know who he was.

But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant.
Matthew 21:15
Rather than being happy and excited they were indignant. Sometimes we, like them, get so caught up in our own ideas, plans and expectations that we can miss the good things that God is doing. We get irritated and upset by what others are doing instead of asking if this is God's plan.

When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables, they knew he was talking about them. They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.
Matthew 21:45‭-‬46 NIV
Jesus spoke harshly against these religious leaders. They feared men more than God and hindered God's plans. I know that the fear of man is hard to overcome. Lord Jesus, help me to fear you above others! I want to please you first and put you first and honor you first!

  1. Sometimes I get irritated by things that my Christian brothers and sisters do, and I wonder if it is right that I get irritated or not. I try to go back to the Scripture and check if what they are doing is in line with what God said in His Word. I also try to guard my heart against division and quarreling with others. Sometimes it is difficult to tell, and I need wisdom from God. In that sense, if I saw Jesus and didn't understand what he was doing and thought that it went against the Word of God, I can understand being irritated by that. But actually Jesus was fulfilling all the prophecies about the Messiah in the first coming. Jesus will return to secure his kingdom on earth.
